Two months to World Stroke Day, October 29th
Activities around the World
Last month, we reported on the WSD2010 activities planned by the German Stroke Society. Members have now sent in news of World Stroke Day events being planned in Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, Spain, and the UAE. Here is a small selection from among the many impressive plans being sent in.
The National Stroke Foundation in Australia announces a number of activities throughout October and on WSD2010, including a country-wide audit of rehabilitation services, an educational DVD for healthcare professionals, and a social marketing campaign that promotes blood pressure checks and awareness in the general public all supporting the 1in6 campaign message.
Dr. A. A. Komolafe writes from Ile-Ife, Nigeria, where an education campaign will take place including full health screening and a phone-in radio/TV show will reach rural areas. Dr. V. Sharma writes from Hyderabad, India, to announce a meeting with the local health minister, which they hope will make possible a major poster campaign spreading awareness of the warning signs of stroke. More reports, along with contact details, are continually being added to the Around the World web page.
Dont forget to write in about events you know about or are planning, using the online notification form.

The World Stroke Campaign in the News
As you have heard, Spanish cycling champion and stroke survivor Alberto Contador lent the campaign his support by agreeing to become goodwill ambassador of the World Stroke Organization. World media picked up the story, which was published by Spanish- and English-language major sports news outlets and newspapers on August 10. Contador won the Tour de France this summer for the third time.
As usual, please direct any remarks, requests or enquiries to campaigns@world-stroke.org.
